TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT FOR ARMY FAMILIES The Army Families Federation Training Centre provides computer training for army dependants to help them return to work, often after a career break. Our students are usually either updating their existing skills or retraining in order to improve their employment prospects. We also help army families to find jobs, and employers are always very impressed by the calibre of our people. We are always interested in hearing from employers who want to know more about how we can help them find the right staff, whether to work in their offices or from home. We have access to thousands of potential employees, so whether your recruitment requirements are for one or one hundred employees, we can help. We run about 45 courses a year and have over 250 students. We constantly review courses so that we continue to offer relevant training for the demands of the job market. Courses offered include IT courses for the very beginner up to advanced level, Bookkeeping and Sage (Computerised Accounts) and Basic Skills.. Along with this professional development training, we also hold personal development courses in assertiveness and job hunting skills. The Army Families Federation Training Centre provides a very high level of training. The fully tutored courses are structured to give every student enough time to thoroughly understand the subject. All core courses have national accreditation, giving recognised qualifications. Our pass rate for these examinations is extremely high, with a 98.5% pass rate compared to the national average of 69.4%. We currently have Training Centres in Bulford (near Salisbury) and Warminster, with three further sites due to open before Christmas 2003. THE LONDON THERAPISTS FORUM Launched 1st October 2002 The London Therapists' Forum meets the need for an innovative organisation to provide a support network for professional therapists. The Forum, which is unique in the UK, encompasses a range of disciplines, works to disseminate knowledge, promote good practice and on-going education and tackle issues of shared concern. The original idea was a simple idea, and as you know action follows thought! The idea was to help therapists working in the complementary field meet other like-minded people, exchange ideas, and out of the networking get referrals. However, the London Therapists' Forum offers so much more. The Forum will offer an introduction to complementary medicine to practitioners of conventional medicines, have tie-ins with scientific members of the University of East London, workshops and demonstrations of different practices, and even mentoring for therapists to discuss ‘problem cases’ thereby offering their clients the best services. Members could do joint ventures and joint advertising. The Forum will offer far more than just networking events to members. We are considering the following options: * Website – one page already up. * Notice board of events/promotions/joint venture/news * Special events * Workshops * Education Programme * Professional supervision Networking and mentoring Scheme * Therapists of Excellent’ Director * Charter for Members But The London Therapists' Forum also recognises self-employed therapists can sometimes be lonely and frequently lack the encouragement and support of colleagues from other disciplines. At last, this looks set to change with the advent of the Forum. For further information please contact: Anna Moffatt, Founder Director, C/o Kall Kwik Printing, 9 – 11 Harbour Exchange Square,London E14 9GE. The Women in Docklands Network is a non-profit organisation set up in 1991 as a network for businesswomen working or living in Docklands and East London, however, we do welcome women in business from all areas of London and beyond who wish to expand their contacts into the area - the fastest growing, most dynamic part of London. In fact, we now offer national and international membership. Our membership ranges from sole traders to senior level corporate women drawn from the public, private and voluntary sectors Our evening events are hosted by local companies and members. The evenings (6.30pm – 8.30 pm) feature a high profile guest speaker followed by an informal reception, when members and guests can network and broaden their contact base. We also organise a monthly informal First Tuesday ‘Drop In’ Breakfast’ at Riverside Café, Holmes Place, Canary Riverside. which has proved very successful indeed. As a responsible business organisation we like to put something back into our community and two years ago launched two annual projects. The first was a Charity Ball, held at the new Four Seasons Hotel at Canary Riverside where we raised £12,000 for two worthy causes – London’s first children’s hospice at the Royal Docks, and early readers’ scheme and after school study centre in local schools. The second was an essay competition for 11 – 13 year olds run in conjunction with local schools and youth clubs across the Borough of Tower Hamlets. Both of these events were successfully repeated last year and similar projects are envisaged for 2002. You may be interested to know in March 2002 we launched the WID Businesswomen Awards Scheme, an exciting new project to recognise and reward excellence, innovation and best practice within the membership.
To keep members in touch we have established our own website at www.womenindocklands.org.uk. Some of the benefits of joining the Network: § Personal copy of the Membership Directory § Networking at events to broaden contact base § Business to Business breakfasts and lunches § Discounted distribution of promotional fliers and advertising in the Newsletter.
