"Smaller firms are a crucial source of new ideas, products and services. They are committed to local communities, generating wealth and jobs. They are an expression of individual independence, increasing innovation and underpinning a free society through the economic and social balance which they create. Ambitious and proud owners of such firms will help drive the economy forward.

Positive discrimination in favour of smaller firms is necessary to enable them to cope fully with the imperfections of the market place which heavily favour larger firms. We need to demonstrate a perceived bias in favour of these firms, permeating not only through all Government policy but also through the main institutions of the private sector.

Not only will more people be encouraged to start their own businesses but, importantly for the economy, more business owners will put their existing success at risk and seek to grow their firms."

John has spent 30 pus years as a practicing Chartered Accountant, both nationally and internationally. Specialised in SME sector for most of that time.
