The Genesis Initiative was formally launched a year ago by HRH Prince Michael of Kent. The Genesis Initiative and Pan European Genesis Initiative are an independent cross-party 'think tank' organisation. A senate represents SME organisations right across the sector, it aims to encourage the development of SMEs, by supporting them through research and the writing of policy papers and lobbying the Government on their behalf through the All Party Parliamentary Small Business Group (APPSBG). The Launch of the Pan-European Initiative, under the chairmanship of Hans-Werner Müller, Secretary General of the largest confederation of SMEs in the EU (UEAPME), aims to extend the Genesis concept throughout Europe, with the establishment of a structure comprising national and multilateral SME representative bodies, national MPs and MEPs, working together with individual EU Governments and the European Commission to ensure small business growth and sustainability. Alan Cleverly
OBE Executive Director of the Genesis Initiative, pointed out that small
businesses in Europe currently face a range of regulatory and financial
impediments in creating and sustaining their activities while, at the
same time, insufficient opportunities exist to share and exploit best
practices employed in each individual EU state. These were the kind of
things that the Pan European Initiative would hope to tackle.
